Half Moon Bay by Mattamy Homes is a master-planned community in south Barrhaven, Ottawa, with access from Greenbank Road. Under development since 2007, it is planned for about 4,500 homes on 600 acres. The current release offers stacked condo townhomes with two to three bedrooms, combining the privacy of a townhome with the convenience of condo living, close to parks, schools, shopping and the Jock River.
The Half Moon Bay release features stacked condo townhomes in two and three bedroom layouts, which the builder describes as ENERGY STAR certified with optional finished basements. Mattamy positions these homes as offering the privacy of a townhome with the convenience of condo living. Earlier phases of the community included single detached homes, which third party sources list as sold out, so this release should not be described as detached.
Half Moon Bay is surrounded by established Barrhaven amenities. The Minto Recreation Complex at Cambrian Road and Greenbank Road has two ice pads, a pool and a walking track, and Stonebridge Trail runs along the Jock River nearby. Shopping at Chapman Mills Marketplace includes Loblaws, Walmart, Winners and a Cineplex cinema, while bus routes and park-and-ride facilities support everyday commuting for residents.
Half Moon Bay is on Greenbank Road in south Barrhaven, about 21 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa. Greenbank Road is the main access, and Strandherd Drive, Woodroffe Avenue and Prince of Wales Drive are other major roads serving the suburb. Highway 416 forms Barrhaven’s western edge, and the Fallowfield Road interchange connects directly to Barrhaven. Park-and-ride facilities and bus routes support residents who prefer not to drive.
Mattamy has been building Half Moon Bay since 2007, with about 4,500 homes planned on 600 acres, so it is an established part of Barrhaven. Neighbouring Stonebridge adds a golf community and riverside trails, and the Chapman Mills Marketplace area provides large scale retail. Mattamy’s materials mention tennis courts, soccer and football fields, parks and walking paths nearby, giving the area a family oriented routine.
Stonebridge Trail is a 24-acre walking trail along the Jock River, and Kilbirnie Park and W.C. Levesque Park are named parks in neighbouring Stonebridge. Mattamy lists tennis courts, soccer and football fields and walking paths close to Half Moon Bay. Stonebridge Golf Club has an 18-hole championship course, and the Minto Recreation Complex adds two NHL-size ice pads, a 25-metre pool, a gymnasium and an upper-level walking track.
Half Moon Bay is served by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board. Half Moon Bay Public School is in the area, and the OCSB planned Barrhaven South Catholic Elementary School on Flagstaff Drive for kindergarten to Grade 6. Barrhaven high schools include John McCrae and Longfields-Davidson Heights (OCDSB), and St. Joseph and St. Mother Teresa (OCSB). Confirm current catchments with each board.
Chapman Mills Marketplace, bordered by Strandherd Drive and Greenbank Road, has 66 stores and services anchored by Loblaws, with Winners, Walmart and a Cineplex cinema. Mattamy also lists Home Depot, Indigo, the LCBO and Shoppers Drug Mart nearby. Barrhaven Town Centre and Trinity Common at CitiGate are other retail destinations in the suburb, and restaurants are spread across these centres.
The Minto Recreation Complex at Cambrian Road and Greenbank Road has two ice pads, a pool and a walking track, while Walter Baker Sports Centre at 100 Malvern Drive has an eight-lane pool and two ice rinks. Parks, playgrounds and nature paths are part of the Half Moon Bay plan, and Stonebridge Trail follows the Jock River. Schools and sports fields complete the family routine close to home.
OC Transpo routes 75, 275 and 279 are listed for the Stonebridge area, and Marketplace and Strandherd stations on the Southwest Transitway offer bus service, with Strandherd providing a park-and-ride lot of over 300 spaces. Barrhaven Centre station is the southern end of that Transitway, and Limebank station is the terminus of O-Train Line 2.
